Enhancing Wellbeing by Focusing on Learning Our Arts, Digital Technology, STEM and Languages Programs All children at Golden Square Primary School have the pleasure of participating in learning in a variety of specialist subjects: Visual Arts, Performing Arts (encompasses drama, music and dance), Chinese Language and Culture, Literature in the Library, and Digital Technology. There is strong evidence that this learning increases a child's creativity, self-expression, confidence, and motivation. The children can engage in learning that they are passionate about with extension classes available in areas such as literacy, numeracy, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and singing. One of many highlights from last year was the claymation movies made by the children and premiered to a live audience at our community movie night. Golden Square Primary School 5531 Enhancing Learning by Focusing on Wellbeing Promoting positive mental health and wellbeing Our whole school approach to embedding a safe and inclusive learning environment for all children includes the teaching of Respectful Relationships, the embedding of our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework with clear expectations that are explicitly taught, small focus groups allowing children to receive support at their point of need, and the implementation of trauma-informed responses. Our children benefit from a strong camps and excursions program. These experiences help the children to develop independence, resilience, and self-confidence. Camps and excursions provide opportunities for children to interact in a safe setting and can help to build friendships, improve communication skills and develop teamwork and leadership skills. Student Voice, Agency and Leadership The children's voices were heard when we developed our vision. They wanted us to work collaboratively in a safe, kind and respectful learning environment that inspires a passion and curiosity for learning. Our current student leaders are modelling what this looks like every day and are benefitting from the opportunities to not only lead within our school, but also within our community.
